Net Metering Solution

Net metering is a government-approved billing mechanism that allows solar panel users to export excess electricity back to the national grid. This means when your system produces more power than you use — especially during peak sunlight hours — the extra units are sent to the grid. In return, you earn credits, which are used to offset your electricity bill when your solar production is low (e.g., at night or during cloudy days).

How Net Metering Works

  • Solar System Produces Power
Your panels generate electricity during the day.

  • Extra Power Goes to Grid
Any unused energy is sent back to the utility grid.

  • Earn Units/Credits
You earn credits for every extra kilowatt sent.

  • Use Credits When Needed
At night or in low sunlight, you draw energy from the grid — your credits offset this usage.

Benefits of Net Metering
  1. Reduce Your Electricity Bill to Zero
Many users achieve net-zero bills or even negative bills (extra credits).
  2. Utilize 100% of Your Solar Energy
No energy goes to waste — every extra unit becomes valuable.
  3. Earn Credit, Not Just Save
Instead of storing energy in expensive batteries, you use the national grid as storage.
  4. Great for Homes & Businesses
Ideal for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural users.
  5. Government Approved by NEPRA
Legal and officially supported by all DISCOs (IESCO, LESCO, KE, etc.).

System Requirements for Net Metering

  • Minimum 3kW on-grid solar system
  • Must be installed by a licensed vendor
  • Single or three-phase connection
  • Valid electricity bill copy and CNIC
What is net metering and how does it work?

Net metering allows you to export unused solar electricity to the grid. You receive credits for it, which are subtracted from your monthly bill.

What are the requirements for net metering in Pakistan?

You need a minimum 3kW on-grid system, valid electricity bill, CNIC, and the system must be installed by a NEPRA-approved vendor.

Will net metering reduce my electricity bill?

Yes! Most users see up to 80–100% reduction in their bill, depending on usage and system size.

Can businesses or commercial buildings use net metering?

Absolutely. Net metering is available for homes, offices, industries, shops, schools, and agricultural setups.

How long does it take to get net metering approved?

The full process usually takes 30–45 days, including inspection and meter installation.

What if my system generates more electricity than I use?

The excess energy is carried forward as credits to the next billing month — nothing is wasted.
